By default, Ubuntu’s Software Center has downloaded and installed drivers for Nvidia’s new GPU drivers, but you can also install them manually.
The steps below guide you through the installation process.
Step 1: Download and install Nvidia’s driver package for your operating systemStep 2: Open a terminal and enter the following command to install the driver package on Ubuntu12.04:sudo apt-get install nvcc nvidia-3ds driverDownload the package and install it on your computer.
Step 3: Open Nvidia’s website to verify that the driver is installedStep 4: Click the Install button to start installing the driver.
Step 5: If you see a dialog box saying the installer has completed, click Install Now to start the installation.
You can also start the installer from a terminal by typing sudo nvidia install in the command line.
Step 6: The installation will take a few minutes, and when finished, you’ll see the following message:This driver package is not installed for the system, but can be installed manually.
Step 7: Click OK to close the installer.
Step 8: Reboot your computerStep 9: Open the Settings app in Ubuntu and scroll down to System > Display.
Step 10: Select the Display tab to display the list of available displays.
Select the Nvidia display driver for your display.
Step 11: Click Install Now and click Finish.
Step 12: Click Apply Changes to start applying the changes to your system.
You’ll see a screen that displays your installation progress.
If you want to save the changes, click Save Changes and the installation will restart automatically.
